Hiring: Cataloguer
Gray's is a boutique auction house in Cleveland, Ohio, a team driven by curiosity, creativity, and a genuine passion for history and objects. We believe every piece has a story worth telling, and we're looking for a Cataloguer who shares that belief. In this role, you'll be at the heart of our operations: researching, documenting, and organizing the treasures that pass through our doors, and helping us present them to the world with accuracy, care, and a little flair.
What You'll Be Doing
Research and catalogue incoming consignments: identifying, dating, and describing objects across a range of categories with precision and depth.
Write compelling, accurate lot descriptions that communicate each object's history, condition, and significance.
Complete detailed condition reports with an unwavering eye for detail.
Organize and lot items for auction, working collaboratively with the team to shape each sale.
Maintain organized, up-to-date records of incoming and outgoing property throughout the auction cycle.
Assist with preview setup and respond to client inquiries about sale items.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in an auction house.
Strong research skills and a genuine curiosity about objects, history, and material culture.
Exceptional written communication, you can bring an object to life on the page.
Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational habits.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for tracking and documentation.
A degree in Art History, History, Literature, or a related field is a plus, but passion and experience count for a lot here.

Hours: Tuesday to Friday, Saturday once a month
In-person, Cleveland, Ohio
Compensation commensurate with experience
