6 Things in Your House that Might be Worth Something

If you’re like most people, chances are you have that “one space” in your home where you keep a random assortment of items. It might be your attic, the garage, a random closet, the guest bedroom you’ve wanted to clean out for three years, or even under your bed.

And with all of the extra time everyone has on their hands, people are taking advantage of it to do that much-needed spring cleaning. While rummaging through your house and cleaning, hidden amongst the dust bunnies and old boxes, there may be some things that may be more than just memories. Your items might be worth more than you think!

What are some of the top items to keep an eye out for? Let’s take a look.

Items in your home that may be worth something

Jewelry

Whether it’s a family heirloom or something you purchased yourself, there is a chance your jewelry might be worth something. Take out the jewelry box and see if there are any items you don’t wear anymore and would maybe want to part with.

Gold & Silver

You might be thinking that only jewelry that’s gold and silver would have any value. But as the first scene of Les Miserables taught us, silver can come in many forms like plates, silverware, and more. Take a look through your kitchen or cabinet to see if you have any gold or silver items lying around.

Rugs

While we can’t guarantee that your everyday rug in the living room will be worth something, any other rugs kept in great condition will be much more valuable. Antique rugs have plenty of value as long as they are well-maintained and clean.

Jade

Along the same line as gold and silver, jade is an incredibly durable mineral that has been fashioned into various items over time. The chances of finding a jade tool in your garage are pretty slim, but you might have sculptures, jewelry, or even gemstones made of jade somewhere in the house.

Antique Coins

Even though we’re using cash less and less on a daily basis, you probably still have some coins hidden away in some of your drawers. Some of the most basic coins may have some antique value. For example, those old state quarters can fetch a bit of money if they’re in mint condition. Isn’t it a good time to clean out your couch anyway?

That Old Painting on the Wall

Do you have a painting you’ve had forever that you’re just not sure where it came from? While the painting may be little more than your mother’s souvenir from Myrtle Beach, it might be worth something. Try and find out all the information you can about the painting before investigating the price to provide as many details as possible to a valuation expert. If you don’t know anything at all, not to worry, we can look at clues to uncover the painting’s history and value.
