Works on Paper, Rare Books and Illuminated Manuscripts at Gray’s

This month at Gray’s we have an extensive number of fine works on paper, rare books, and illuminated manuscripts up for auction, including an impressive collection of fine editions from the Print Club of Cleveland. Starting off the auction in Lot 1 is a print of St. George and the Dragon, 1947 by Salvador Dalí (1904-1989). While the world-renowned surrealist arguably needs no introduction, many art collectors may not realize that Dalí had an extensive history with the city of Cleveland through his patrons Reynolds and Eleanor Morse.

African-American Art & Fine Jewelry Highlights at Gray’s

This month at Gray’s Auctioneers, we are delighted to highlight a collection of fine art by prominent African-American artists from our large auction of Fine Art, Furniture, Jewelry, and Decorative Art.  One unfortunate legacy of our country’s struggles with its historic racism has been the neglect of black artists by critics and collectors until recent times.  This month Gray’s is offering a number of artworks by important African-American artists in their October 10th auction.

An Extraordinary Private Collection of Asian Decorative Arts

On September 12th, Gray's will be auctioning the private collection of the late Ronald J. DiCenzo, Professor Emeritus of History and East Asian Studies at Oberlin College, Ohio.  DiCenzo passed away on November 4th, 2017, but his academic legacy, and enthusiasm for Japanese culture, and Asian culture more broadly, are brilliantly displayed through his magnificent collection of fine decorations and furniture now up for auction at Gray's.

Come One, Come All, to the World’s Fair on April 16th at Gray’s!

Once again, Gray’s auctioneers is proud to host a wide variety of memorabilia and collectibles from the historic World’s Fair exhibitions, with another slew of souvenirs and curiosities from the 1939 “World of Tomorrow” New York Exhibition in particular.  This particular expo famously featured the monumental Trylon and Perisphere, two large modernist buildings connected by what was at the time the world’s longest escalator.
