Cedar Point Amusement Park Auction on Nov 18th
What do vintage arcade games, antique steam powered vehicles and a 19th century apothecary store have in common? They are just some of the items being offered in our upcoming auction on November 18th, from Cedar Point’s Town Hall Museum. Cedar Point, the venerable amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio is celebrating their sesquicentennial in 2020 marking 150 years since they opened. In celebration they are debuting a new Town Hall Museum collection, one of the many special events to mark their anniversary.
We are honored to have been selected to auction the collection. The auction will take place on November 18, 2019 starting at 11am. This collection has been a beloved fixture at The Town Hall Museum for decades. For many children it served as their introduction to the historical treasures to be found in museums all over the world. And what an eclectic collection it is. The antique steam powered fire engine is sure to be one of the highlights. Steam Fire Engine #496 was manufactured in by American-LaFrance, in Elmira, New York in 1904. It was supplied new to Greensboro, North Carolina and put into service fighting fires throughout the city. At the end of its fire-fighting life it was displayed in preservation at Frontier Land amusement park, Cherokee, North Carolina, before moving to the Town Hall Museum, Cedar Point amusement park, Sandusky, Ohio during the 1960’s.
The collection includes vintage Rock-Ola arcade games, a vintage replica of Captain Picard’s chair from Star Trek: Next Generation, vintage live steam locomotives, and several antique Mutoscope Reel Company machines amongst many other antique fair artifacts. The fully illustrated catalogue for the auction will be available by October 25 online at GraysAuctioneers.com. The public will be able to preview all the items in the auction in person at Gray’s Cleveland, Ohio showrooms at 10717 Detroit Avenue starting Thursday, November 7.
